Master of Alchemy Can't say I'm a fan of this band, but desert and stoner doesn't come much better than the vast, epic, twenty minute jam that is Dying on the Mountain. This song is just brilliant. All locked into a bass groove provided by none other than Mr Nick Oliveri (who seems to be behaving himself here!). Favorite track: Dying on the Mountain (Pt. 1) / Altered Ages / Dying on the Mountain (Pt. 2).

The Midnight Toker. I had to come back and correct my mistake of not buying the vinyl the first time around. Wonderful collection of musicians on top of their game created a vast musical landscape for our minds to explore.

Smekermann The first song is a goddamn desert rock saga. It's super varied, and the guest artists shine. I love Wiberg's keyboards on this. I also love the different sections this song has. Sometimes reminiscent of Kyuss (though that should come as no surprise, given the guest bill). Haunting. Great. Favorite track: Dying on the Mountain (Pt. 1) / Altered Ages / Dying on the Mountain (Pt. 2).

This is the standard edition release of Year One, Volume Four in the PostWax series.

From the brain trust of revered desert rock veterans Gary Arce (YAWNING MAN) and Bob Balch (FU MANCHU) comes psychedelic stoner rock outfit BIG SCENIC NOWHERE. As friends and pioneering legends in the desert rock scene of the early 90’s, Arce and Balch have performed in the same circles for decades, and now have teamed up with a few friends for a project that gives new life to the experimental and collaborative spirit of the early “generator parties” that launched the scene nearly 30 years ago.

AOTY candidate of the year '23. '23? I was afraid Reflections wouldn't come close to Io, tarnishing the legacy to me. Finally gave it chance: it's different, but definitely a Lowrider album. What always made them special for me was a relaxed groove coupled with a driving energy. On Io it's like galloping a motorcycle through an amazing landscape at 200 kmh in a meditative state. I really enjoy this bands previous material and this is from the Post Wax release so I could muster this will be special like the Elder sessions. Check the bands BC page for a sample of what may be in store with this one. If you enjoy the groves and vocals of Holy Grove then you'll love this band. More English than previous work and a tad bit more psychedelic than I recall as well. The Midnight Toker.
